6. Derive the continuity equation in Cartesian co-ordinates in three dimensions.

7. The velocity potential function (φ) is given by an expression


i. Find the velocity components in the x and y directions.

ii. Show that φ represents a possible case of flow.

8. State Bernoulli’s theorem for steady flow of an incompressible fluid. 

Derive an expression for Bernoulli’s equation from first principle (Euler’s equation). 

Also state the assumptions made for such a derivation.

9. A horizontal venturimeter with inlet diameter 20cm and throat diameter 10cm is used to measure the flow of oil of specific gravity 0.8. 

The discharge of oil through the venturimeter is 60 litres/s. Find the reading of the oil-mercury differential manometer. Take Cd=0.98 and g=9.81 m/s2.
